Rory McIlroy's second round at the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance got off to an unexpected start. McIlroy, who held a three-shot lead after his first-round 63, was 6 over par after his first six holes Friday. He made double-bogeys on Nos. 13-15 after starting his round on No. 10.
McIlroy three-putted the 13th from 73 feet, then hit his 126-yard approach shot into the water at the 14th. He nearly reached the par-5 15th in two shots but made double-bogey after he double-hit a chip shot. He made the turn in 7-over 43, then shot 1-under 35 on his back nine for a 78. He's at 3-under 141 entering the weekend.
