GREEN BAY - Green Bay Packers officials say all of the tickets for this Sunday's playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers have been sold, averting a TV blackout.
Fans purchased the majority of the tickets for the game, but a group of companies also stepped up late this week agreeing to purchase any remaining tickets to avoid the TV blackout. The companies that purchased the remaining tickets include WLUK FOX 11, Associated Bank, WITI-TV of Milwaukee, WFXS-TV of Wausau, Fleet Farm and Bellin Health.
“Nobody appreciates more the value of televising this game to the hundreds of thousands of fans in Northeast Wisconsin than FOX 11," said Jay Zollar, WLUK FOX 11 Vice President and General Manager. "As the NFC station of the NFL, and the station that carries the most Packers games in town, broadcasting this game was important to us. We made a contribution to the cause of eliminating any potential blackout in this market. Now, Packers fans can enjoy a Packers win on TV!”
Packers officials said some of the tickets purchased by the partners will be distributed to Wisconsin military families through the USO, as well as the Ashwaubenon, Wrightstown, Green Bay Southwest, Green Bay East and NEW Lutheran high school football programs.
On Thursday, the NFL granted the Packers a deadline extension to sell the playoff tickets. If the tickets were not sold before 4 p.m. Friday, the game would have been blacked out in the Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Wausau TV markets.
FOX 11's Ben Krumholz is working on this story and will have complete coverage tonight on FOX 11 News at Five.
