As I much as I hate to admit, I will have to agree.

Yao Ming vs Howard, resulted in 6:2, in favor of Yao. While Yao Ming more or less maintained his normal output, he drastically limited Howard, every single time they faced each other.

So Yao Ming is clearly better when they played each other. However, there are only 2 issues with that conclusion:

1. They only face each other twice every season, unless they both advance to the Finals.
2. Except for Shaq, Howard, and maybe TD, there were NO more real centers in the league in Yao era. Meaning, at a normal night, Yao had to deal with those athletic 6'8 "midgets", who simply fronted Yao for most of nights.

Once Yao got the ball down low, it's game over. The only problem is to get him the ball. Battier, and especially TMac did very good job to do that. Passing into the paint requires vision, size, and technique. As almost everyone has shouted, "give the big fella the ball!", we could see from this years's Rockets games, how hard it is to pass into the paint, even to an athletic-freak in Howard.

Yao couldn't dominant both ends of the floor at will, although he's huge impact/game-changer. But he's easily limited by fronting, therefore almost every coach will pick TD and Howard in front of Yao.
