Miami Heat fans leave early, making a huge mistake in Game 6
There for a few minutes, with the Miami Heat trailing with less than a minute left in Game 6, Let’s go Heat became Let’s Go Home, as Heat fans streamed for the American Airlines exits.
They weren’t the ones thinking it was over, that the San Antonio Spurs were about to win the NBA Finals. The Larry O’Brien Trophy was spit-shined and ready for its closeups. Then, suddenly, NBA officials had to do an about-face and so did Heat fans, who wheeled and unsuccessfully attempted a walk of shame back into the arena.
What they missed — because, you know, you’re not allowed back in — was a terrific ending as the Heat rallied from a five-point deficit in the final 30 seconds and battled for a 103-100 overtime victory that forced Thursday night’s Game 7.
So many people have left that I’m honestly embarrassed for this city. — Dan Le Batard Show (@LeBatardShow) June 19, 2013
At least some of the fans were angry at not being allowed to return. “They were saying, ‘I just left! I just left! Please!’” an arena worker told CBS Sports.com’s Royce Young. “They’d run up there, then they’d run back here trying different doors to see if they could get in.”
Hey, the signs at the doors say “No Re-Entry” for a reason.
