What are they afraid of taking a hard foul to protect the basket?

Jeremy let Martin, yes, the baby face Martin blew by him and layed it up, only raised his arm. I know he's hurt, but can you wrap him and take a foul?

What happened to those eyes full of fire during Linsanity? He kept holding his chest, I know he's in pain, but you either sit down calling it a night or play through.
