Late calls are manipulative and injust. It's always been a problem in NBA, but it seems really bad in the first day of 2013 playoffs. Not every contact needs to be called a foul, but as officials, you need to make up your mind, and set a standard. How much contact is too much.
You can't decide whether it's a foul depending on the result of a shot. If it doesn't go in, you are going to reward him 2 freethrows, but swallow the whistle if the shot goes in. That's just wrong.
