Should Jeremy Lin Get Traded by Houston Rockets to Los Angeles Lakers?
March 29, 2013 10:40 AM EDT
No one will say the Houston Rockets had any ulterior motive than making Jeremy Lin their future point guard. However, given his improvement could they get more value out of trading him to a needy team like the Los Angeles Lakers?

Lin and James Harden have Rockets in the thick of NBA playoff hunt

A lot of people, fans and experts alike, criticized the Houston Rockets when they swiped Linsanity out of New York City. Time seems to have proven them wise. After an up and down start to the season, the young point guard who took the NBA by storm last year has helped superstar James Harden put the team right in the thick of the playoff race. With eleven games left on the schedule Houston clings to the seventh seed. Their recent loss to Indiana didn't help and they still have six road games left to play. Outside of a collapse down the stretch the team should make the playoffs with Lin as a big contributor. Lost in the mania of this team turnaround is what the Rockets have afforded themselves. They spent a lot of money bringing Lin in from the Knicks. Conventional wisdom says they will continue building around him and Harden. However, given his young age and improving skills, is he becoming more valuable to them as possible trade bait for next season?

Steve Nash struggling to help Kobe Bryant carry Lakers

Point guards have become highly sought after pieces for many teams around the NBA over the past few years. Superstars like Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving have paved the way. One team that has struggled to keep up in that department is the Los Angeles Lakers. Though they currently hold the 8th seed in the playoff race the team is clinging to it by their fingernails after losing four of their last five games. Kobe Bryant has a bone spur in his foot and he hasn't gotten much help from fellow future Hall of Famer Steve Nash. Los Angeles spent a lot of time and money bringing the 38-year old in from Phoenix. It hasn't gone as planned however. Nash has battled injuries all season. The most reason is spasms in his hip. It wasn't like he's been a focal point of their limited success anyway. According to CBS Sports Nash currently ranks 40th among active point guards in the league. That is behind reserve names like Alex Shved in Minnesota and Nate Robinson in Chicago. It doesn't exactly scream championship run. There is nothing Los Angeles can do about it now with the trade deadline passed. That doesn't mean they can't pounce once the season ends. Lin makes a lot of sense. He will come cheaper than the really big names, he's only 24 years old and his current ranking of 18th on the chart proves he belongs with the better players in the NBA. Adding him to the roster will provide a boost in energy and some help for Dwight Howard after Bryant and Nash retire.

Jeremy Lin isn't going to win games alone. Yet his time with the Houston Rockets and James Harden continues to prove he is an excellent compliment to the scorers. If the Los Angeles Lakers want to ensure their future they should at least consider a trade.
