Jeremy Lin Isn't A Star, According To Houston Rockets GM Daryl M

Jeremy Lin is making $25 million over three years. With an average of 8.4 million per year, he is the eighth highest paid point guard in the league. The seven who are making more money have either won MVPs (Derrick Rose, Steve Nash), perennial all-stars (Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams) or guys who have been a starter on a championship team (Rajon Rondo, Tony Parker).
Lin is being paid like a star, but apparently, the man who gave him that contract doesn't consider him to be one.

Grantland's Zach Lowe wrote a wonderful piece today breaking down the Rocket's future, and more than once, he mentioned the Rockets -- although in a good spot -- needs a second star along side James Harden for the future. Morey actually agrees. Heck, he provides the quote.
Here's Morey to Lowe:
"We haven't done anything yet," Morey told Grandland. "We are still on pace to be a no. 6-no. 10 seed. We still have a long way to go, but we definitely like our position better. We probably got the hardest part done, but now we have to get a second star to go with James."
So this begs the question, if Morey himself doesn't consider Lin a star -- and we're not even talking the alpha dog superstar, but the secondary star -- why did he offer Lin that contract?
Did Morey overvalued Lin and has since realized his mistake? Or did Morey pay Lin that amount because it would be a good business and marketing opportunity?
Lin himself would admit he's not a star right now. And no educated basketball fan would consider Lin to be anywhere close to a superstar but to hear it from the man who offered him the money is, well, strange.
