Is international driver's license required for driving in Austri

We are going to visit central european countries too at the end of this month. We'll get a rental car at Frankfurt airport and drive to Austria/northern Italy/Czech. Do I need to get an international driver's license for driving in these countries? I read on-line and some people said yes.
