It is true. But you can live without it.

If you only take 2000 photos or less per year, this will not be an issue (this means you have plenty of time between photos).

I can live without it even when I take 2500 photos in 2.5 hours (which means I do not have time between photos), although I would like to have it.  Image quality at high ISO (poor lighting for indoors) is more important for indoor events.
