請教關於養狗的推薦

家裏的小朋友想要養狗，俺簡單看了一下。狗狗的品種真是很多。有點“迷茫”中。。。
俺的想法是，養個中等大小的。不想很大的那種，但也不想太小的。
俺家的後院不算太大，也還夠狗狗小跑一下下。家裏兩個小朋友，4歲和6歲。
請問各位達人，可有推薦？？
