There are about 50000 characters in Chinese standard language, in which about 5000 are commonly used. However, it is unnecessary to abandon those uncommonly used characters. This is simply because root meetings of those characters are precious gifts created by Cang Ji in ancient time. Actually, it will benefit development of intelligence and brain function of kids learning Chinese, although it is quite hard for them as you said.
Why do they need be abolished?
