Weapons are not the only factor in war. Politics and economics
matter as well. If anything mao showed that in the korean war. Chinese weapons were a lot less advanced than the US, but the US had internal issues where President Truman wanted to see McArthur the american general fail. Chinese were united to fight against colonialism then, and china fought the advanced weaponed US to a standstill. Nowadays, there are no such threats and chinese population has forgotten the humiliations of the past. With the passing of communism and into market economy means china has nothing to unite the people ideologically. A war now would mean china would face internal threats and external competition.
