I believe this post pointed out the untold truth about the reality of China economy. That is why I always emphasize physical economy that deals with goods production. A simple estimate would lead to a picture of China's economy in 70s and 80s when 700 to 800 millions of Chinese people had a peaceful life that would convert at least 2 to 3 trillions US dollars if using the GDP estimate techniques used in the western countries like the States, Canada. Therefore, it is possible or true that China stood as the second largest economy in 1970s and 1980s.
However, there is a big room to improve in economy, such as that newly built houses or apartments in rural regions should be equipped flush toilets, public rest rooms should provide toilet papers, etc.
