前麵我們欣賞了聖桑的最著名的交響曲“管風琴”。今天我們再來欣賞可能是他最廣為人知的作品“天鵝”。這是聖桑1886年創作的鋼琴與樂隊組曲《動物狂歡節》（Le carnaval des animaux）中的第13首。
《動物狂歡節》由14首帶有標題的樂曲組成，生動地表現多種動物的氣質。有趣的是，其中一首樂曲的標題是“鋼琴家”，與其它動物並列。那段音樂基本就是用鋼琴演奏多種調的音階，好像是在自嘲地說，練習基本功的鋼琴家也像是一種動物。全部14首樂曲的標題及翻譯見本文附錄。
第13首“天鵝”在組曲中最為著名，常被單獨演奏。原曲由一把大提琴和兩家鋼琴演奏。樂曲以徐緩優美的旋律，表現天鵝美麗及聖潔的氣質。
