Recently, a young girl borrowed CDs of Mozart's 9th Concerto from me. They are by Hess and Fou Ts'ong. I listened to them side by side since they were out my shelf and found something interesting. Hess' execution of ornamentations was more "modern" or "research-updated" than that of Fou, though her time was almost half of a century earlier than that of Fou.
BTW, I revisited Haskil's Mozart in my collection. It's pure and exquisite, and she was another perfectionist (next to Lipatti). Must be the water in Romania. Could I take back what I said about her yesterday? I tried to make it up by introducing her to everyone here. :-)
It's particularly unusual for someone was born in the 19th C.
