馬克思 布魯赫 (1838-1920)
第一小提琴協奏曲, Op. 26
現今，多數認為 馬克思 布魯赫是小提琴作品的作曲家。第一小提琴協奏曲一直為大眾所愛，因而淹沒了他的許多其它作品如蘇格蘭狂想與第二小提琴協奏曲。事實上，人們已忘記，布魯赫，在他那個時代，是因其大型合唱作品而出名的。在1870至1900有很多這些作品的演出，如 Odysseus, Frithjof or Das Lied von der Glocke。這些，為布魯赫贏得的名聲短時間內超過了勃拉姆斯。
布魯赫1838年1月6日生於Cologne，與比才同年。在那ㄦ隨 Ferdinand Hiller與 Carl Reinecke 學習。 他在國內外很久，隨後更久在Mannheim。 他的歌劇Loreley就是在那ㄦ於1863年上演的。該劇是取才於Geibel的歌詞集，因原本獻給 Mendelssohn而得到大眾更多的關注。布魯赫第一個公職是1865至1867在Koblenz任Kapellmeister（樂師-專們負責作曲？指揮？）。隨後至1870在Sondershausen。1873至1878在柏林的Bonn全力投入創作。在柏林的Sternscher Sangverein作了很短一段時間的指揮後，1880年繼Julius Benedict為Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra樂隊指揮。1883年離開英國到Breslau任Orchester-verein的指揮。1891移居柏林並教授作曲。Respighi就是他的學生之一。1911退修並致力於創作。作品是過時的傳統風格。1920年10月2日於柏林去世。
第一小提琴協奏曲給布魯赫帶來很多困難。1865年他接任了第一個公職在作指揮，那時他已決定專研對他是全新的音樂題材，協奏曲，著手於1864年夏天開始的小提琴協奏曲。1868年由Joseph Joachim在Bremen第一個演出該曲, 隨後又在其它城市演出。很快為其它小提琴家，如Leopold Auer和Ferdinand David演奏。尤其針對小提琴獨奏部分，布魯赫該曲曾征求Joachim的意見，還有些意見，並非全部可取，來源於Ferdinand David和指揮家Hermann Levi。後來布魯赫極力聲明不要過於誇大這些意見的重要性。這首協奏曲以250 thalers（一種銀幣）賣給了出版商August Cranz，從而失去了royalties，之後顯然後悔了。
該協奏曲形式特別。共三個月章，全部sonata的形式。……

the soloist entering in the sixth bar with a flourish. There is a lyrical second subject and an opportunity for technical display at the heart of the movement, before a shortened recapitulation, with a return to the music of the opening and a brief Allegro moderato that forms a link to the E flat major Adagio. There the soloist immediately announces the principal theme and, after an elaborate transition, the second, already heard earlier in the movement. Both return in the concluding section. There is a Hungarian lilt to the principal theme of the final G major Allegro energico, and a suggestion of the similar figuration Brahms was to use in his own violin concerto ten years later, both perhaps reflecting the influence of the Hungarian-born Joachim, to whom Bruch's work was dedicated.
