Pan Chung-Hsiang 潘鍾祥
Pan Chung-Hsiang, who was born in 1906, graduated from Beijing University in 1931. After working for Central Geological Survey Institute and Sichuan Geological Survey Institute for several years, Pan came to the U.S. in 1941 and studied at the University of Kansas and the University of Minnesota. He received a master’s degree in geology in 1944 and a doctoral degree in geology from the University of Minnesota in 1946.
After he returned to China, Pan was a professor at Sun Yat-Sen University, Bejing University, Beijing Geology University, and the graduate school (in Beijing) of Wuhan Geology University. He also served as the director of the Geology Survey Institute in Guangdong and Guangxi.
Pan was a co-founder and deputy executive director of the Chinese Petroleum Society. Pan published the article “Petroleum in basement rocks” published in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Bulletin in 1982. He led the development of the publication “Geology of Oil and Gas Field in the World,” which was used as a textbook.
