Every morning I have to get out to the backyard to let the ducks and geese out. Before sundown I have to drive them back to the pen. When we go out of town for a day or so, I hire a pet sitter to do what I do everyday, in and out twice a day.
One of my muscove ducks is brooding now. She sits on the eggs all day except for eating and drinking twice a day. What a good mother! My old batch, the peking ducks are poor sitters and we got nothing left from them! All killed by predators and no duckings hatched.
Don't buy ducklings from Tractor Supply. They are either Peking or mallard. No good for hatching and self defense. Ducks are easy to raise, particularly in our subtropical, humid climate. They love the rains, downpours and the mud puddles. We had to clip their wing tips and put up fences because they can fly over eight feet and the neighbor wasn't very happy about them.
You can have ducks if it's done right. No worries.
