Allyn and Adele 是給美國國務院報告的，跟海軍無關 （Allyn 二戰時在海軍情報部門服役，語言工作）

Allyn was asked to provide brief reports to the state department, an activity he should probably have thought twice about. These reports must also have seemed relatively innocuous, both because he didn’t have all that much to report, and the information was collected fairly informally. He never saw himself as a spy. The new Chinese government saw things differently, however, and both husband and wife were ultimately arrested and imprisoned as foreign agents.

退伍後的瑞克特和阿黛爾來到了美國費城，進入賓斯法尼亞大學東亞係進修漢語，也正是這段時間，他們有了屬於自己的中文名字：瑞克特為自己取名為李克，阿黛爾則取名為李又安。在賓大學習期間，夫婦二人頗受漢學家卜德欣賞，在1948年還拿到了富布萊特項目的獎學金。

這兩人是富布萊特學者，到中國研究中國語言學，是富布萊特基金會資助的，沒有拿國務院、軍方的錢
