1. assume the lay-off is illegal (either discrimination or mom-to-be shoud be treated specially), you merely to win the case.

2. If you are a good employee as the firm recognised and the job is still there but one staff must be cut off, you got to argue it should not be you but anyone else. Your employment length for this company might help.

Either way might produce:

- if people are protected in situations like you are in, maybe you could ring a legal service line to seek further advice before talking with your boss. If advisers assure you, let your boss know in your negotiation.

- if the company re-employ you or offer an alternative post under assumption 2, the relationship is sour especially you might expect a good recommendation letter in the future or a good working environment.

Up to you to decide whether to keep this job or let it go. Understand at the moment the job market is...
