no signs that say "no returns" inside the store

but the receipt does show "no returns" but that's after the purchase was made. again, we were not told that the items are not returnable .
I understand that no one wants to sleep on the pillow that someone else has used, but again, from a consumer's point of view, how do we know that a pillow a completely comfortable to use until we try it for a night?
