Why your friend came to you? Are you a managr? Is your company "your company" or just a company you work for? If you own your company, you sure can do whatever you want to write the letter and stay in the same boat with your friend for as long as he stays in US.

Sounds like your friend is training in your company, he should have acess to a company letter head or whatever, he can draft whatever letter he wants. It's a bogus letter anyway. There is no need to drag you into it.
