I guess you have never published anything here in the states. You need every author's signatures to publish an article in a Journal (after your paper is accepted, you will have to complete that form). So do you think your boss will sign it? Are you going to forge the signature (then you are really in trouble). On the other hand, your boss can alway retract the paper even you published it without his knowing with his name on it. I don't know which field you are in. Generally the most important authors on a paper is the corresponding author, who generally is the boss, no matter whether he is the first or the last. So talk to him carefully to see what's going on. Don't do stupid things. Good luck!
