Are you in a university or a research institute? In university, faculty recruitment has to go through a hiring committee and termination will not be this simple. Talk with HR about the issues and look into the committee who can make the termination decision and file a complaint with that committee. this may buy you some time to look for another position, not to solve the problem for long-term. If you do not see eye to eye with your director, it is better to move on.

If it is in a research facility or institute, then it is hard for you to win. These institutes run like industry. One person can decide your fate. So in that case, you should start looking now.

But really, I can't see any real problems here besides sharing some authorship. Is it really a big deal for you? Why not let him be a pickle in the middle of a big sandwich. I am sure you will still be the senior author.

Sharing your glory can be very useful. If you keep this attitude all along, you will have tough time any where you go.
