說自古以來都禁止墮胎，是不符合曆史的。在胎兒開始動以前，墮胎都是符合世俗法的。

符合不符合宗教法不去說。

胎兒動叫做quickening，大約在五個月左右。 現在得克薩斯等一些紅州禁止六周以後的墮胎，也就是說這些州的孕婦還沒有殖民時代的婦女的墮胎權。
