前房客關於security deposit 的糾紛，我作為房主，有法律責任嗎？

前房客是個警察。把房子弄了點小破壞，我檢查後通知 property management （PM） 公司幾處要修的，提供了維修的發票和收據，要求費用從security deposit中扣除幾百塊。

PM回複沒有問題,寄了支票給我，餘額寄給了前房客。

前房客收到後不同意，說問題是以前就有的，寫了信“request the remainder of the deposit from home owner”. PM直接把信轉給我，還說“If you don’t pay her she will be taking you to court.”。

可是，PM是租房合同上的房東，security deposit 也是PM扣的，就算前房客因為security deposit的糾紛上法庭，被告方也應該是PM，我的理解對嗎？
