[求助]還錢的問題

ex尚欠我美元超過5k，我想最壞的情況是上法庭。我有以往check的record和他承認欠款數目的email。他現在因工作搬來我附近的城市。有朋友提醒我欠款的數額會超過small claim court 的上限。我不知道如果不能在small claim court的話，在其他類型的court怎麽做paper work？是否一定要請律師，和程序？
