Are you on W-2? If yes, they need to pay 6.2% SSN for you.

You pay the other 6.2% + medicare as well.  If you are on 1099, you pay all the SSN and tax and etc.

It is normal that they do not provide health care. Though, not sure if that violates Obama care.
