Are you sure you are laid off, not fired. The reason I ask this question is because in some states, if not all, the employer will have to let go a group of employees and meet some crtiteria in order to qualify it as a lay-off. Also what is the nature of your employment, by contract or at will? If it is at will, they can let you go for no reason even you are the best rated employee, as long as there is no unlawful motivation, such as discrimination.
