U can choose to apply for a new F1 visa of course. A lot of people do it so that they can go back to china. But it is not necessary if you only intend to return to US.

It is called automatic revalidation. Never heard of it? within 30 days you can go to canada or mexico and come back to US even if your original entry visa has expired.
