nurse green card please help!!

I will apply my nurse green card end of this year.My lawyer is preparing my paperwork.I heard that i will wait for 5 or 6 years to get my finally green card approval.And the lawyer ask for the high pay for my hu*****and.So we decide to apply green card separately.My hu*****and will use NIW or EB2.He will add my name in his application.His application will in Vermant. mine is in California.If my hu*****and get the green card before me,can I leave my employer to find the other job?我的老板會不會告我?I have the English test which is not finished.It is very important to us.I need separately with my hu*****and and my child for at least 2 years or longer.Please help me make the decision.It has no too much time.Thank!!!!!!!!!
