FP and I-485 approval?

Dear all:
Asked for my hu*****and: Our case is employment based, I am the primary applicant, priority date is 09/30/2005. Me and my daughter got the card in 2007. However my hu*****and's is alway pending under initial review. When the visa number was available for him, NC was not finished, when NC finished, visa backed up. When visa was available again, FP was expired. When he did FP last year, however visa was back again. I am wondering do they really need FP to approve your I-485 case? now the visa number is going to be available in June, do we need just wait? or call them? I am afraid if I call, they will let you do FP and takes for couple of weeks, when you finish FP, then no visa again. This dead cycle will happen again. Anybody here has experience for this situation?
