Pjiang, need your help!!! Out of status?

I am a Ph.D student and got my master degree in 2006. Currently in F1, new H1-B visa will be effective from Oct. 1st. I have the approval notice and new I-94. I enrolled at school for spring semester and summer semester, but didn’t enroll for fall semester 2008. That means I have about 35 days gap (from August 21 to September 30). My school told me that they will terminate my status and report to the INS this week.

My question is: do I have 60 days grace period (I don't complete my Ph.D) ? Can I stay legally in US until my H1-B is effective?
