Actually, in some situations you CAN!
a temporary cessation of work is not necessarily a failure to pursue the activity if there is no formal termination of employment and the individual reasonably expects to continue in the job. For example, the cessation may be covered by approved paid or unpaid leave for study, illness, maternity, disability, or other reason approved by the employer. If the cessation is only to allow you to find a new job, you may not keep your H-1B
