So you have yet applied for next H-1b which is supposed to start in August.

Since there is a gap between, I think you will receive I-797B which requires you to apply H-1b visa at consulate, if it's approvable.

Once you have filed I-129 before current H-1b expiration, you're fine to stay. Please refer to above, as well.
