I only know two kinds of examples:
1) the first one happened to me: received an invoice ... total fees due ... I argued for the bad service and ask for reducing the fees but not successful and paid full in the end to avoid any potential trouble (many closed friends suggested me to do so).
In this case think about if one refuses to pay his debt (sure it depends on the details of the contract - in the contract I signed there could also be a charge of 1% interest per month for unpaid balance), what would happen in the end? That was what my friend asked me.
2) another one happened to someone else here: the lawyer threaten to withdraw his/her application. We suggested to pay the full fees. Not sure what happened in the end.
