If I were you, I would go to the Bay area. Right after you get the badge from the new company, you would present your case to HR & your immediate supervisor and argue for a quicker resolution to your immigration status. You should stress on the possibility of loosing your legal right to work within one and half year if no action is taken immediately. You do love this job and would hate to slow down your productivity due to this concern. Moreover, mention thing such as: 1) your wife might not be able to work due to her H-4 status and the housing price in Bay area is out of reach for a single income families like yours; 2) you miss your family back in China. Without a green card, it is a hassle to visit them with an H1-B visa; 3) your children always press on you to see their grand parents. 4) your parents in turn are old and wish to see their grand children's smiling face right in front of them. 5) you promised your parents or your children that they could have spent the Christmas or the Spring Festival in China, but you could not keep the promise because of your legal status.

The bottom line is that you want to convince your employer that you are willing to work for the company once the GC issue is resolved. Promise that you won't leave the company once your get your GC (no written contract though).

For your information only. Not a legal advice what so ever. Good luck!
