My friend's parents came to USA (last year) from Beijing with ANA using a one-way ticket (4k+ yuan) were refused to board before they bought a return ticket at the airport (16k+ yuan). I am NOT saying this will always happen but if it DOES happen it is a BIG TROUBLE then. So an annual return ticket is a better option.
You can also check with the airline if a B2 visitor can use a one-way ticket to come to USA. I heard about North-West is ok. ANA is the most trouble one.
