applying visa in Beijing--help

Hi friends,

My status is F-1 before 9/30/2005, H-1B after 10/01/2005. On 9/28/2005 I concurrently filed I-140 & I-485, USCIS received them on 9/29/2005. Under such situation, can I still work on H-1B? can I go back to China and apply H-1B visa in Beijing? I am missing my baby so much and want to take her back. please help me with your opinion or your experience!
