Help needed, Please!!!!!!!!!!

Fact:
LC certified though PERM on 08/22, still waiting for hard approval letter.
Want to file I-140/I-485 before 10/01/05 for me and my wife.

Questions:
1) Can I file I-140/I-485 by myself (employment-based)? I don't trust lawyers. Most of them are irresponsible and SLOW
2) Do I and my wife need to file I-864? (My wife is in OPT, but she has a job and is applyin for H-1B).

Please give me a hand if you are experienced in this. Really appreciate.
