From three aspects:

1): Your unique background

2): specific evidence to your impacts of your work( current and past): such as, citation, awards or other academic honors, paper reviewer, email consultations from your peers for tecnique help or anything like that, PI or co-PI as reseach projects here or there, domestic or abroad, wherever, etc.

3): opinions of independent experets from goverment agencies or other institutes (i.e. recomm letters).

Look at "NIW NIW是怎樣煉成的(校正版)? [移民論壇] by 博士打工仔 (--http://web.wenxuecity.com/BBSView.php?SubID=immigration&MsgID=99560"), and my previous post " The Secrets of NIW" --(http://web.wenxuecity.com/BBSView.php?SubID=immigration&MsgID=100444)

You will get some idea about the possible evidence you can collect and how to compare.

Part 1 and Part 3 are not problems for most persons here. But part 2 varies person to person. The tendency is that the second part (specific evidence) weighs so much in recent review of NIW. That is why you see almost every RFE notice requested specific evidence to demonstrate you are superior to your peers and why national interest would be adversely affected if going through LC.

just for your reference. GOOOOOOOOOOOOD LUCK!
