Hard to get payroll

I started working (without any docs and payroll) and getting training with this company since earlier this year. The owner agreed to apply H1 for me and to hire me once finding a project for me.

Yesterday, HR told me that they got my h-1 approval and will give me in a couple of days. I talked to the owner again and he said there will be a project in 2-3 months. He can only hire me until then. Up to now, I still get training and help them with some projects.

Is there any time frame that the boss should start to pay me once my h-1 is approved?
