Gong Xi Fa Cai to all.
Now I am really facing a serious decision to make. Have been living in Toronto for 10+ and recently got an opportunity to relocate to Hongkong...still in discussion on the package but probably will get a 10 % raise on gross base (140 USD/1.1 M HKD), plus relocation assistant for the family (wife + one 9 year old). To make things more complicated, I also have options to relocate to NYC or Chicago.
I am not young anymore (just celebrated my 40), and the raise is not huge; but career wise it is definitely a benefit.
Questions for folks who have similar experience before (relocated to HK from US/Canada):
1. Is it worth it to make such life change (plan to go back to NA in 3-5 years)
2. Have you thought about exit strategy and how easy to go back to NA?
3. Given the info above, would it be a drop on the quality of living in HK? I know housing in HK is crazy - even though Toronto is crazy too.
4. I probably will propose a lump-sum relocation package for discussion. What is the number of months's accommodation I should include in the package? How should I calculate education assistants for my 9 year old?
Many Thanks!!
