The October employment report has been canceled and the November report will come out late, the government said, depriving the Federal Reserve of critical information before it meets in early December to decide whether to cut interest rates again.

The November employment report will be published Dec. 16 instead of Dec. 5 as originally scheduled, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Wednesday.

An estimate of employment for October will be included in the November jobs report, the BLS said. Yet the agency said no unemployment rate would be available for October since the information could not be collected.

The Fed next meets Dec. 9-10 to vote on whether to lower interest rates again. The bank cut rates in its past two meetings because of worries about a deteriorating labor market, but it won't have critical data for October and November when it next meets.
