China Vows More Countermeasures Against U.S. Tariff Threats
Beijing has pledged to launch more countermeasures against Trump's tariff threats as the trade war between the world's largest economies heats up.
China will resolutely take countermeasures to safeguard its rights and interests if the U.S. proceeds with tariff escalation measures, the Chinese commerce ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The U.S. threat to escalate tariffs on China is a mistake on top of a mistake, which once again exposes the U.S. 's blackmail nature, and China will never accept this," the ministry said. "If the U.S. insists on its own way, China will fight to the end."
The comments came shortly after President Trump said he plans to slap an additional 50% tariff on China starting Wednesday if Beijing doesn't withdraw its own retaliatory tariff on the U.S.
China said last week it would hit all U.S. goods with an additional 34% levy starting Thursday, matching Trump's latest round of reciprocal tariffs.
