I started to move some of the asset into REIT in Q2. 薄付司令 and I have mentioned this a several times. That is why porfolio actually underperform NASDAQ in June and early July. But REIT has been doing really well since 7/11 and that helped
I also do a lot of hedge. Bought a lot of put when NASDAQ dips below BB mid-band (均線大哥談了很多次）， covered them when I went long on 8/5. This particular time, I was lucky on most of the trend reveral trade. Last year in Q3, I wasn't so lucky so portfolio dropped more (from percentage wise) than NASDAQ during that time.
However, I believe rotating your portfolio (not just individual stock, but to allocate some asset to a different sector) from time to time will help you. The biggest help for me is emotional support. When I know I have backup reserve in REIT and CEF, i am more willing to commit my fund and take risk during the time such as 8/5
