My shake (cedar oak?) roof is getting close to end of life (22 years old). Sunny side shakes start to warp/spllit at ridge so time to reroof.
cost, weight, look and thermal insulation are main factors.
concrete tile: Concrete roofs can last 50 to 100 years or more, luckly my roof is strong enough to support the increase in weight. thermal conductivity coefficient 0.5-0.6 W/m K
shake: Cedar shake life expectancy will only average 15-20 years unless you are willing to perform the regular maintenance required to keep them in tip-top shape. thermal conductivity coefficient 0.2 W/m K
synthetic shingle tile: Synthetic shingles, also known as composite shingles, typically last 30–50 years? probably only 30 yeras at most.
thermal insulation just like normal shingle (0.8 W/m K)?
