You need to study States income tax laws

Each State that levies income taxes, have laws to prevent people moving around to avoid state income taxes if their moves are not a permanent move.  In some states there are Day Counts of residency to determine whether you are subj to the state income tax. 

You need to study the state tax laws and not to "assume" what your neighbors do...  Getting in trouble with tax law is not a joking matter in US, whether it is Federal or State.  Ignorance is not a defense in US laws.  Just sayin.
