It is tricky. It is nice to have a benefit package like, 401K, health insurance to retain employee. However, it is a cost to employer. So you can share the expense with employee or paid in full. The trade off is the reduced salary since the compensation packge is including benefit and salary. A lot small business also buy health insurance plan through state, like MA. If employer pays in full to cover health insurance, employee is willing to accept lower pay since health insurance is an sensitive issue to all working class in today's economy.
